5 lighthearted books for Christmas

For most people, Christmas is the perfect time of year to unwind, relax and spend precious time with family. With this in mind, SPCK has handpicked five easy lighthearted books for the holidays.

1. Noah’s Car Park Ark - Paul Kerensa

In this refreshing spin on the classical Biblical tale of Noah’s Ark, Noah embarks on a rhyming adventure as the driver tries to fit all the animals in together. How will he make this happen? This retelling filled with colourful pages will surely keep both children and adults alike entertained.

2. Moses and the Exodus Express - Paul Kerensa

Give your child the chance to embark on the Exodus Express this Christmas in this quirky retelling of the story of Moses! Filled with charmingly glossy pages and vibrant images, this book will be a delightful treat for all little book lovers.

3. The Tabloid Bible – Nick Page

Putting a renewed twist on major biblical events as modern media would cover them in today’s age, this is an amusing and fun read for anyone interested in taking an alternative approach to understanding the Bible.

4. Jumble Sales of the Apocalypse – Simon Jenkins

‘What do you do when the Second Coming is scheduled for next Wednesday? Make sure you’ve got clean underwear on? Confess those last sins?’ From Christian satirist Simon Jenkins, this novel will break down the ways in which people come to express their holy opinions in a witty manner.

5. The Sacred Art of Joking – James Cary

‘This is a book about comedy and why it goes wrong, from the baffled look and the eye-roll to public shaming and death threats.’ Coming in January 2019, Cary’s new book is divided into three parts, which will look at the anatomy of jokes and how they work (or don’t). It includes practical references to famous joke cases – all from a Christian perspective.

So which one will you choose to read with your loved ones?
