Mission and Vision

SPCK mission and vision quote banner

Our vision is a world where everyone is transformed by Christian knowledge.

This vision matters more than ever in an era which our president, Archbishop Justin Welby, says is characterised by “a lack of religious literacy”. SPCK is taking responsibility for providing a Christian voice to turn around this decline in understanding.

We help Christians like John Royle make sense of their faith: “I have been a regular attender of the Church of England for 70 years, and having read Simply Good News I feel I have been trying to follow a map holding it upside down.”

We help the church’s continued role in a secular society make sense, by creating resources which will help the most vulnerable, like James Campbell: “Depression: The Curse of the Strong helped me so so much! I never ever read anything! But this book was a total saviour.”

Our mission is to be the leading creator of books and resources which help everyone to make sense of faith.

Our mission is driven by the combination of our people and our partnerships. We strive to be creators who bring quality and innovation to everything we do, curators who work with the very best authors and content creators, connectors who are able bring our published resources to a national and global audience and collaborators who work in partnership with our base of committed members and donors, and with local, national and international churches, charities and other organisations.

SPCK has always taken the lead in filling in the gaps where neither the local parish nor the national church can reach. At different times that has included sending the first European missionary to the Indian subcontinent, opening the first church schools and running a leading national bookshop chain. In the twenty-first century, this innovation extends to our books, resources, apps and programmes.

Our mission is to reach across boundaries to impact people both widely and deeply, whether these individuals are prisoners reached through our Diffusion programme, Amazon customers reached through our publishing, commuters encouraged by our Prayers on the Move campaign. We are committed to continuing our recent growth towards reaching a mission people every month.
