Andy Frost's plans for 2019
We caught up with Andy Frost about how the last year has been, especially since the publication of his book Long Story Short!
1. You published Long Story Short this year. How has 2018 been for you?
We spent a year living in France in 2016-2017 which was pretty incredible. As a surfer, living by the beach for a year was great and being immersed in a different culture was fascinating. In 2018 we have really re-settled in London. Having written about finding a story for our lives, I have been working out my story in this season and why God has brought us back to this city. I miss the ocean but there is something exciting about exploring God’s call on my life at this time with this global city as the context!
2. What was your favourite part of writing your book?
It’s always exciting when you start to write a new book. I find that I am bubbling with ideas and the potential of the theme I am exploring. The stage I am not a fan of, is the editing phase! I like big picture and I’m not generally a detail person. My favourite part was definitely seeing the finished printed edition and hearing how it has encouraged people on their faith journey. It's amazing how God gives you an idea for something and how that idea can go on to impact people’s lives!
3. What have you learned about yourself through writing your book?
Writing about my story has caused me to reflect on my own life so far and I guess one of the main things that I have been reminded, is that God is at work throughout. Looking in the rearview mirror, I have seen that God is faithful in my story so far and that even during the difficult times, he has been at work in shaping and refining me.
4. Which book have you been recommending to everyone lately?
I really enjoyed Cycling Out of the Comfort Zone this year which is about two Frenchmen who cycle around the world meeting the church in very different places. I love travel and adventure and so this book inspired me to keep exploring as they reflect upon the Christian faith! My friend and I have been creating our own mini adventure video series as ’The Adventures of The Ginger Vicar and Balding Bishop’ so it’s always good to read about others that have similar passions.
5. What do you look forward to most in 2019?
Every year I set myself a physical challenge. Over the last few years, these challenges have involved boxing, triathlons and canoeing across Scotland! In 2019 I am running my second ultramarathon, which will be 100 miles non-stop! I’m not sure I’m looking forward to the run but it will definitely be an achievement once I have completed it!
