About the Author of One Bible, Many Voices

Sue Gillingham is Reader in Old Testament at the University of Oxford and Fellow and Tutor in Theology at Worcester College. She is the author of several books on the Psalms and is particularly interested in literary and theological analyses of the Psalter as a whole and the Jewish and Christian reception history of individual psalms. She has also published a book on the art and architecture of Worcester College Chapel under the title Encountering Burges. In 2013 two books were published. The first (Jewish and Christian Approaches to the Psalms: Conflict and Convergence) is an edited work of papers given by a team of international psalms scholars at a conference on the same topic at Worcester College in September 2010. The second (A Journey of Two Psalms. The Reception of Psalms 1-2 in Jewish and Christian Tradition) traces the reception history of these two psalms from their early origins up to the present day, not only through the comentary tradition but through their liturgical use, visual exegesis, musical interpretation, and imitation in English literature. She is at present working on a second volume of Psalms Through the Centuries (the first was published with Wiley Blackwell in 2008, pbk 2012)which examines the reception history, more briefly, of all the psalms in the Psalter.
